Title: So,you are thinking about becoming a doll owner,eh?
Post by: Smoke on December 12, 2021, 03:04:43 PM
I remember my early  teenage self and a friend, drooling over copies of penthouse, hustler and playboy, that he had liberated from his older brother. Wishing  that somehow , the women within those pages, could come to life and full fill our horny teenage fantasies.

Fast forward , several failed relationships , one failed marriage and  forty five odd years.

But wait.

I remember  seeing a documentary around 2000 or 2001, in that area. It was called “Guys and Dolls”. It was during the “Good times” of said marriage. I remember my then wife and I looking at each  other with bewildered expressions saying, WTF?

WTF indeed, the seed was planted.

Fast forward a few years. In the wreckage of my crumbling marriage , my horny teenage self, sprinted out of my memory , grabbed the seed that was planted , loaded it into a RPG launcher , and fired it dead centre into my forty something brain.

The seed then grew into a google search and the rest is history.

I love and respect women, but I have come to accept the fact that  I was never destine to have a long lasting  relationship with one.

So this preamble has been an attempt to explain how I got here. If you are still reading then you may be doll-curious and possibility planning a trip down this road. But first you need to know the cold hard truth about doll ownership. You need to be committed .

No, not to an insane asylum.

But you need to be committed. Think of a doll as an infant child that never grows up. Except worse. It doesn’t move either. You will be spared the messy diapers but not much else. A doll is dead weight. A doll is cold, well room temperature anyway. A doll cannot and will not move on it’s own.  No. That is a robot, not a doll.  A doll can be injured very easily if you are not careful. It is not going to leap out of the crate, or box they arrive in and into your arms. When you leave whatever space you parked your doll in, it will still be in the same place when you return. Undressed, or dressed in the same outfit. You are it’s master. It will become whatever you let it become.

Think about that. These are just a few general things to keep in mind. There are countless others.

And if you are cool with all of that, then maybe you are ready to become a doll owner.

I fantasized about life sized sex dolls made out of ultra soft rubber when they didn’t exist!
It was the mid seventies, big false lashes and miniskirts were the normal, and most department stores had realistic looking mannequins.

As a kid, I would stare at those mannequins...

Dolls don't demand your attention, you give it when you want to.

Dolls are very quiet, won't talk, scream, bitch and gripe.

A doll will never reject you.

But we're preaching to the choir, no?

Now that TPE dolls are essentially as cheap as inflatables, cost is no longer a huge deciding factor in doll ownership.  Us old timers, and connoisseurs of high end dolls, had to cough up thousands of dollars per doll.  It was a major financial commitment.  Multiply that by our doll collections.   Now you can own like 15 TPE dolls for the cost of one high-end silicone doll.

I think one of the biggest considerations of doll ownership is the ability (or inability) to hide them.  This is a difficult thing to do for anyone who co-habitats.  Not only do you have to have a place to safely store a doll out of sight that can't be too conspicuous, but you also have to hide all the wigs, and clothes, and lube, and toys and...  In the old days, we just deflated them and a really good hiding place was not that difficult to find.  And then there is the looming threat of getting caught.

Once you have it all figured out (and budgeted), at least for me, it was a choice that I will never regret. :egyptian:

I'm glad to see our veterans chime in here.  8)

I wrote this mainly for anybody that may be on the fence about doll ownership. I have seen first hand the panic sale after the doll has arrived in some first time buyers front porch. .

It's the "WTF is this? " ,  realization when they figure out that they have bought isn't going to walk out of the crate all warm and wet and crawl into the bed on it's own.  She's too heavy... Well yeah, you bought a life size  doll for Chrys sakes.  ::)

Still, the idea of possesing a beautiful fuck buddy doll out-weighs the realty check in the back of ones mind when one see's the weight listed on the website.  We see the numbers but they don't compute!

I believe there are also quite a few panic sales resulting from the realization that they have jumped into an abyss and they are worried they will be judged.
Duh!
Someone said somewhere, and I hope it becomes true, that one day NOT to own a doll will be weird. Because they will be as common place as a TV or water heater.

And vintage platinum silicone dolls in good shape will be collectors items.   "And this one was owned by the legendary Ceej himself!"

Doll owners hide dolls because they think there is something inherently wrong with having them. And yet doll owners come to these forums and proudly proclaim, "Hey! Look what I am fucking!" Stop thinking of them as 'sex dolls' or 'fuck dolls'. They are just "dolls". How you employ them is entirely your business.

If life-sized dolls were sculpted out of any other material, they would be on open display in an art museum, and likely in a home, yard, or garden. If one has an oil painting for which they paid for several thousand dollars, they would not hide it away. They would likely hang it in their living room. It would not matter if that painting displayed a female breast, buttocks, or male genitals.

There was a time when any store that sold clothing had mannequins to advertise those clothes. Other than a mild sexual interest, no one gave them a second thought. Life-sized dolls are here twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. See them for the beauty that they are, just like any other work of art. If doll owners want the public to accept life-sized dolls, then doll owners need to learn to accept them.

"But you don't know my family, my friends, or where I live." You don't know mine, either. If people do not accept me for who and what I am, then I do not need them. In all the time I had Feodora out on location (http://www.arimecibo.com/noquiexis/Feodora_Photoshoots.htm), most people who made any comment were just intrigued. Some thought I was doing a catalog or magazine shoot. (That was my original intent when I was looking for a mannequin.) A few wanted to take 'selfies' with Feodora.

The most negative reaction was a TV cable installer who was startled by Feodora. (Spring of 2010) When he calmed down, he just ignored her and went on with his work. After that, I gave service people advance notice before they arrived. She was still in her crate when I first moved to this apartment. (August 2020) The cable guy at this apartment never got the chance to see her. Anyone else who ever came to my place has seen the dolls.

My elder daughter did not like them at first (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley), but she, her husband, and their kids have learned to accept them. I suspect that my grandson is at the age where he might take a special interest in her. I was a teenager once, really! When they visit again, I will either have a long dress on Feodora, or a top and slacks.

You are absolutely right Noq.  A doll is and can be for whatever purpose you want to give it.  The sad but true fact  is that the stigma that is still ingrained in society's psyche is alive and well.  ::) At least in North America.

I think it's fair to say that the vast majority of doll owners are male, and the general perception will always be , why else  would a single male  (in most cases) have a life size doll capable of sex. For some reason that is considered weird or unusual. Whether that exists only in the owners mind , or is the mindset of the general population , it's going to be difficult to change.

The youth of today have a much more  relaxed  view of sex than we did 50-60 years ago.  There is a lot of change going on in our culture.  Unfortunately not all of it good.

Great opening post! I love reading your perspective. That whole sex doll thing is a slippery slope. I mean a rabbit hole. First time that inanimate doll takes your load....  :egyptian:
It's on like Donkey Kong after that. Then it becomes a matter of where to store them when the visitors come. And there's more dolls each time they do. :D

DG, thanks for reviving this thread.

I see I didn't post back when it was more active. But ....

With DB&G being and staying as 'exclusive' as it is, this is indeed preaching to the choir. I'd say the targets of the OP are in the population of 'not yet dollfuckers'. Not a lot of them here. Most of 'us' knew what we were getting into years ago. (My first inflate in '06 as my marriage collapsed. A TB and more inflates followed. See my sig for a datestamp on Barbie.)

As for 'stigma', I did have a 'more recent' bad reaction to my dolls from a RG I was dating. Lesson learned. At least that particular woman did not approve. Whether she was concerned about 'competition', I don't know.

Exactly Scrappy. My target audience for this thread  was (is) for the potential prospects, not the choir. We do have an exclusive little club here and I'm just fine with that. But if and when this little club emerges from the shadows , this may be a good first thread for new members not yet doll owners to have a gander at. For myself I was a forum member before a doll owner.

It's still great to have the veterans chime in and give a perspective. More please if you wish.  ;D

I remember finding the cost on the Realdoll site and amortizing out the cost.

A while later (thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet) I found TDF, and a member selling his 2002 body 5 sit down doll.

I hammered out a deal, and lurked for many months before “coming out” in chat.

The rest, as they say, is ancient history.

And yes, it seems here at DBG, I am preaching to the choir. I’m thinking that this is where I want to be.

I got tired of the white noise and the chattering and bickering of the other forums.

Good luck to them. They all serve a purpose.

This is where the history is. *

This somewhat ties to another thread:

The general population media has no clue, and are writing fiction.

Believe me. I could write a book.

Furthermore, all someone would have had to do is find this group thats been around for almost 2 decades and eavesdrop. We’ve been hidden in plain site, and they have been too fucking lazy to find us.
