Title: Silicone Bonding.
Post by: Smoke on September 13, 2022, 11:44:52 AM
I stumbled on this while doing a google search for " Silicone Repair"

I don't know how this would translate to repairing a tear in a platinum silicone doll but I think it's worth a look.

It doesn't glue silicone together like Sil-poxy or 2 part, it creates a so called molecular bond between the two surfaces. Look at the web page and watch the video and judge for yourself. Supposedly repairs all types of silicone.  :-\ ::)

That looks pretty cool!

Looking forward to see someone try it.  Think it would work on TPE?

Maybe our resident chemist can chime in and give his analysis/opinion...

I was going to try it.  After doing the math.

25 US  ( for the smallest option}. Doesn't sound bad but it gets better.   + 35 US shipping. x1.35  exchange rate  x 13 % GST adds up to almost 100 Canookistan rubles in a hurry. Perhaps one of our US partners would volunteer to be Guinea Pig..  ;D

$35 shipping on a $25 item? (https://dollbarandgrill.com/forum/chat/img/emoticons/facepalm.gif)

Be great if it'd work on tpe. As long as we have silpoxy, why  use this on silicone?

How much was shipping?  I couldn't find any info on shipping anywhere on the site.

You have to go through the shopping cart and get into the check out area before you get shipping pricing. Shipping to Canada is going to be more expensive the shipping within the states.

Oh boy , is this great! ;D

Well, I finally tried it. My initial impression is

FAIL

Sort of....I took an old TPE insert, cut it and performed the application procedure on a clean, fresh cut. The bonding was instant. No chance for repositioning and getting the edges to line up. And the bond was absolute, not pulling it apart.

So what's the downside? The edges were hard, like superglue. The bond will hold under flex and stretching but with a hard edge that wouldn't go away. Not fun for an insert.

Undaunted, I attempted to fix the split taint on my WM 140. Slightly more difficult, as I needed to hold a sheet plastic barrier to prevent the accelerant from coating both sides when sprayed. For deep repairs on soft materials, they recommend waiting 24 hours for full cure, which I did.

Total failure. The adhesive only stuck to the side without accelerant, leaving a hard crust.

Fortunately, with some lube and patience, I was able to gently roll the dried bonder between my fingers, breaking it up and eventually working it free from the TPE.

I think this stuff would work for things like damaged elbows and knees, but not any orifices that one would plan on using.

It can work, it's just not the soft fix one would require for a sex doll.

I knew we could count on Mahi to get right into  where it matters most. Something like embedded reporting in a war zone.   :thumb:
