2/22/22 I decided I'd had enough. I gave it up and realized for me anyways, it had to end completely. No more wiggle room on this.
Since I made that commitment, it's been amazing. I got into fitness, dropped 24 pounds, got into kayaking, weightlifting, meditation, singing, recording, all kinds of stuff. I went to Costa Rica twice, stayed sober the whole time and had a freaking blast!
I made some major life changes, one of them being getting out of an unhappy marriage, deciding to retire and move overseas. I dropped 5/6 meds I was on. I have felt happy and content with the direction my life is taking and looking forward to the future.

Congratulations Zarnon - Your post resonated with me as I went through something similar. I drank wayyyyyyyyyy too much for wayyyyyyyyyyy too long and deep inside, it was clear I had a problem but was completely buried behind my high stress job over 40 years. Then I retired back in 2011 and the perceived need to drink every night just went away. I didn't even try and was all a matter of getting that horrendous stress out of my life - it did take a few years. Last drink for me was 2016 and can't begin to describe the difference in my life. And look at all the money you're not spending! Congrats man!

Congratulations Zarnon. I quit drinking 22 years ago, when I got arrested on my front yard in front of the neighbors…
Glad you found better ways to enrichment.

Very cool. Yeah, I had a stretch of sobriety back in the day, 7.5 years sober then made the classic mistake of thinking I was fixed.
