Title: Posting Your Personal Wins or Accomplishments
Post by: belshanar on September 14, 2021, 07:36:41 AM
Have you had a win in life recently? Have you accomplished something that you are proud of?

In some cases, it could be simply "I got out of bed today." For those of us battling depression, that is certainly a win.

Maybe you lost some weight, or were able to switch over to a smaller shirt size.

Succeeded at a new cooking technique, and didn't burn the water while trying to make ice cubes.

Point is, if you had a win in life, I want you to post it here!

This morning, I just realized that I had not had an alcoholic beverage in over a month. Not only that, but I had not wanted one in that time as well. I am actually quite proud of this!

Sure, there was no booze available during this time, where I am, which made this little challenge easier. But it is available again, and for the most part, I do not care.

I have no intention of never drinking alcohol again. I fully intend to have a nice beer once I get home. Whisk(e)y too, just not at the same time.

belshanar,

"The Boilermaker (https://www.thrillist.com/recipe/boilermaker-recipe) is the easiest two-ingredient, dive bar cocktail in existence. It consists simply of a shot (usually of whiskey) and a beer (poured into a pint glass or sipped straight from the bottle)."

I quit drinking this year the day after New Years. I started again about two weeks ago . I can honestly say that I didn't miss it for those months before hand. For someone who was drinking every single day of the week and harder on the weekends, I thought that should go in the win column.  I'm not going at it as hard as I was. Maybe I'll shut it down again.  ::)

I always get my drinking advice from Smoke.
A personal win? Well I have beaten Covid 3 times. The first one was a doozy, but the last 2 weren't shit. I am unvaccinated. Nothing against the vaccine, but I had Covid TWICE before it was even available to me. The last time, a fully-vaccinated guy gave me a variant. Well, his little "jab" antibodies didn't fare so well against that variant. He went to the hospital, and I went to CVS and got a test. In the last 2 infections, all symptoms mild and gone by day 4. No docs/meds needed, just proof I had the shit again for my employer. They only give you 10 days off now. And they SHOULD, because THEY are the reason I keep getting it and will again soon I project.

I have come to the conclusion that we are ALL going to get this crap, over and over the rest of our lives. It is essentially a new form of flu, mutating like crazy. Everyone is going to have to survive it the first time, and after that you should be good. I'm over 60, got asthma and high blood pressure, and unless some truly deadly strain comes out, I just don't see this crap killing me.

The other day, while walking back from the gym, someone walking the opposite direction complimented my sweat band. It totally made my day, as that was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me, unprovoked.

I also happened to have set a recent record for weight moved in both Squats and Leg Press, which while not a personal record, did make me realize that I am not as weak as I often feel like I am, and that I am getting better!

Small things and victories!
