Most of the “representatives” of the Doll community are self-elected because of a willingness to be public about it.
The most prolific persons are the ones who strive to have a constant social media presence.
Some are endearing and some are total asshats.
Most started on one of the doll forums, but left the forums because it just couldn’t feed their need for attention in my opinion.
But then again, who am I ? 
Truer words were never spoken. Nor were words ever spoken by a truer PERVERT.
A doll meet is like a pervert convention. It's a hoot!
Most of us perverts have a reputation to uphold, fully aware that these dolls are mere sex toys. We prefer to remain in the shadows while the attention-seekers make us seem extreme. Most of our accusers are female, half of which have at least one drawer-full of disembodied penises, the only part of the male they deemed useful, in denial it is the exact same thing WE are doing, and get angry when you point that out. And the male accusers? Try leaving them alone with your doll.
At least half spend 50% of their time jacking off to porn or VR, like there's a difference. Then there's the abstainers, the religious, and the ED crowd all shaming us, but there's not much you can say to them. (Other than "Why not?," "Let's sin," or "Touch the doll and see if it responds. You're right, it's dead.)
