Simple Machines Forum 2.1.0 Released
For those who do not know, the
Doll Bar & Grill runs on
Simple Machines Forum (SMF) software. Currently this forum is using SMF version 2.0.18. SMF version 2.0.19 has been available for a little while, but the website owner has not upgraded to the newer version. We saw what happened at ODC when a website continues to use outdated software. Enough about that. Since ODC never allowed anyone to do software upgrades, the website owner will have to learn how to do software upgrades here.

Simple Machines is pleased to announce the official release of the long awaited SMF 2.1.
This release marks the transition of SMF 2.1 into the current stable release of SMF. This means that:
SMF 2.1 is now the recommended version for use on live production forums. We encourage everyone to start planning for an upgrade to SMF 2.1.
SMF 2.0 remains supported and will continue to receive security updates for the foreseeable future, but this release officially marks the end of further 2.0 development. We will release a separate announcement for any future changes to SMF 2.0's status.
Notable changes in 2.1
The changes between SMF 2.0.x and SMF 2.1 are too many to count, but here are a few highlights:

You can learn more about the many new features and changes in SMF 2.1 here.NOTES For the Arimecibo Island website:
Arimecibo
Island Rules cover
ALL of the
Arimecibo Island website without exception. Some of
Arimecibo 2.1 was not updated while it was SMF version 2.1 RC4 (Release Candidate 4). This will be addressed in the coming days.
smf 2.0 and smf 2.1 cannot share the same database. Posts on one forum will not be automatically transferred to the other. For all intents and purposes, the
Magnus Bay Colony Forum (smf 2.0.x), the
Arimecibo Island Forum (smf 2.0.x), and the
Arimecibo 2.1 forum (smf 2.1.x) are three separate entities.
The Magnus Bay Colony Forum, and its associated gallery and chat room, will continue to be maintained as a testbed for trying out new software, software updates, and new ideas. Current members may stay there if they wish, but no new memberships will be granted. Current Magnus gallery members may keep their photos there, or they may delete them if they wish.
Arimecibo Island Forum (SMF version 2.0.x) membership registration is by email activation. This will only change if there is a flood of spam registrations. Arimecibo Island Gallery membership is by Admin approval only. Arimecibo Island Gallery members retain full control over their images, as long as those images comply with Island Rules.
Arimecibo 2.1 (SMF version 2.1.x) membership registration is by email activation. This will only change if there is a flood of spam registrations. No separate gallery or chat will be installed for the Arimecibo version 2.1 forum.
Themes and modifications for SMF version 2.0.x will NOT work for SMF version 2.1.x unless they have been updated by the theme author. If themes have been updated, I will attempt to install them on SMF version 2.1.x soon.
Other than updating the Arimecibo 2.1 (SMF version 2.1.x) forum, from RC4 to smf2.1.0, no other changes to the website are planned at this time. I have a list of Language packs that I usually install with every upgrade. These do not translate forum posts. They do provide forum instructions in the chosen language. "english_pirate UTF-8" has been added to the Language Pack list for SMF version 2.1.0. It uses English that you might hear in the old pirate movies.

By the way, the SMF version 2.1.x only uses the UTF-8 character sets. I used all UTF-8 Language packs on all the SMF versions.

* Attachments have been known to cause problems in the past. They are disabled at the Magnus Bay Colony Forum and the Arimecibo Island Forum. I may allow them on the Arimecibo 2.1 forum to see if this has improved.
